Day Trip - Sydney to Mittagong
Longing for a family break after the Covid lockdown we were looking for a day trip to an area we have not explored before.
Here below is what we did on the day.
We reached Mittagong Visitor Center at around 11:30am and took a Map from the centre for the area. The lady there was very friendly and explained us various options including places to shop and dine. The best information we got there was that we can go on a trek which has routes which are kids friendly as well.
11:50am We reached Mt Jellore Lookout. Its the best lookout in my view in that area and gives a good view of the entire area. Worth spending 20 mins.
12:15pm 5 mins drive away was Bowral Lookout, another good view and enough space to have picnic. We spent another 20 mins there.
12:45pm we reached Bowral Art Gallery but that was closed due to COVID19.
Other option was to go and see Sir Don Bradman Museum, but my better half is not a cricket fan so we decided to skip it. Few more options we skipped in this trip were Berrima Town sites. We after all had just 1 day to spare and we wanted to do some trekking. So, read on...
1pm we reached Centennial Vineyards, they have a big size restaurant (but due to COVID and that we have not done a reservation so :(). But, cellar doors there were open for wine tasting but they don't have a tour for distillery so we gave it a skip as well. Though we skipped few things due to our preferences, listed those names here is blog as you may still want to explore those. The other places we skipped due to lack of time are Eden Brewery and Tertini wines.
We ate our home made lunch (palak poori and ginger achaar) in our car and went to the place we really came for - The Box Vale Walk by around 2:30pm.
That turned out to be awesome. We did a 2hr walk trek as my lil one wanted to walk as well which took us in greens. We spotted a group of Kangaroos, few birds, ant hills, a superb tunnel, and a Lookout to Gorge (we were warned to not descend the Gorge as way back we may get lost). To Gorge it would be a rough 2km trek one way with fallen trees, rocks and mud. We had kids so we skipped an additional 3km trek to Forty Foot Fall.
So that ended our trip. We will come next week to see couple of waterfalls in Robertson Town and will blog about it, those are also a short drive from here.
This blog should give you enough name of places to explore on your own or you can follow our family friendly tour listed above.

If you like to cover more than these spots in the same day or remove few and want to know more options in this area then look at my other blog of the same area - here.
Have a good trip!
